Investigating Numbers

In Class 1 we have had another super week.

The children have loved investigating numbers this week, exploring ways of making 100, learning to count in 10’s and 5’s and reasoning their understanding.

Natural World

Class 1 have had a fantastic week with Mrs Kirkham. They have been learning about using natural materials to make Griffins!

The children worked in teams to collect natural objects around the school grounds and then made their own griffin

“The pinecones are its legs’ Harry said.

Young Writer

We were thrilled to hear the wonderful news this week that Leon from Class 4, who entered the Young Writers ‘Talent for Writing’ Competition, has been chosen to have his work published in a book showcasing young adults’ work, called Twisted Tales 2022.   Congratulations Leon!  This is an incredible achievement, especially as the competition invited 11-18 year olds!  Your mini saga (a story told in just 100 words) which tells the story from a villain’s point of view really did impress the judges.  There were over 10,000 entries nationwide and your work will remain in the National Archives of the British Library forever!

Animal Encounter

On Wednesday 6th April Class 1 were treated to an animal encounter. This half term we have been learning all about animals so seeing some actual animals was a great way to finish this topic. Marie from Animals2u brought in four animals; 2 reptiles, 1 mammal and 1 invertebrate for the children to meet.

All of our children have thoroughly enjoyed their time with Liam from Achieve4All, who has been with us this term and taught the children a whole range of activities, including, building on teamwork skills, confidence building activities and coordination.  He has been an utter joy to have in school and we look forward to welcoming him back in the near future.

Rainbow Benches

The PTFA has been fundraising for this project for several years and we were all over the moon to see the arrival of 4 new covered rainbow benches at school last week!  The benches seat 32 children, so an entire class can make use of them together, providing shade from the sun and tables for work/play/lunch outdoors.  We are sure these are going to be well used this summer and for many more summers to come!

Ready, Steady Read

£600 was raised by our very talented children who took part in the PTA’s Ready, Steady Read challenge!  This equates to a whopping £891 worth of Usborne books for our children to read and enjoy!

Ocean Exploration

The Reception children have loved exploring their new ‘ocean animal’ themed continuous provision areas. They have particularly enjoyed fishing out and counting sea creatures from the Water tray as well as exploring their new underwater Role play area.
